Repolling Ordered at 15 Booths in West Bengal After Irregularities
Election Commission of India has ordered West Bengal Repolling 2026 at 15 polling booths across two constituencies in West Bengal after receiving complaints of voting irregularities during the recently held Assembly elections.
The affected constituencies are Magrahat Paschim Assembly Constituency and Diamond Harbour Assembly Constituency. According to the official order, fresh polling will take place on May 2, 2026, with voting scheduled from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Why Repolling Was Ordered
The West Bengal Repolling 2026 decision comes after reports submitted by Returning Officers and election observers flagged discrepancies during voting held on April 29. Acting under Section 58(2) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Commission declared the polling at these booths void.
In its directive, the Chief Electoral Officer of Bengal stated that all material circumstances were reviewed before arriving at the decision to ensure a fair and transparent election process.

High Voter Turnout Amid Tension
The West Bengal Assembly elections were conducted in two phases—April 23 and April 29—and saw a record voter turnout of 92.47%, the highest since Independence.
However, concerns over possible irregularities and post-poll violence have kept authorities on alert. Security has been tightened across sensitive areas, especially in Kolkata, where gatherings have been restricted in certain zones ahead of vote counting.
