Falta Repolling 2026- In a major and rare decision, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has ordered a complete repoll in the Falta Assembly constituency of West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district. Fresh voting will now take place on May 21 across all 285 polling stations, with counting scheduled for May 24.
The move comes after a wave of serious allegations surrounding the polling process held on April 29. Due to the Falta Repolling 2026, results for this constituency will be delayed, while counting for the remaining 293 out of 294 Assembly seats will proceed as planned on May 4.

According to the Commission’s official notification, multiple complaints were received from political parties, candidates, and media reports highlighting irregularities during voting. Among the most alarming allegations were claims that black adhesive tape or even perfume was applied to buttons on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), potentially influencing votes in favour of or against certain parties.
The ECI also flagged incidents of voter intimidation, obstruction at polling booths, and the unauthorized presence of political party workers inside polling stations—clear violations of electoral rules.
Additionally, authorities noted troubling lapses such as companions casting votes on behalf of actual voters and the absence of video footage at some booths, raising serious concerns over transparency and accountability.
Tensions on the Ground
Falta Repolling 2026: The Falta constituency has witnessed heightened political tension over the past few days. A heated exchange between police observer Ajay Pal Sharma and Trinamool Congress candidate Jahangir Khan went viral, adding to the charged atmosphere.
In a widely circulated video, Sharma can be seen warning the candidate’s family members of strict action if voters were threatened. In response, Khan made a dramatic statement: “If he is ‘Singham’, I am ‘Pushpa’,” referencing popular film characters and underscoring the intensity of the confrontation.
Protests and Security Deployment
As repolling was conducted earlier in 15 booths across Diamond Harbour and Magrahat Paschim constituencies, unrest spread to Falta, where voters staged protests demanding a complete repoll—something the ECI has now granted.
To maintain order, heavy deployment of Central forces has been carried out across sensitive areas. Security personnel remain on high alert to ensure that the upcoming repoll is conducted peacefully and fairly.
Arrests Over Electoral Violations
In a related development, three leaders of the All India Trinamool Congress have been arrested following complaints of electoral malpractices, including allegedly threatening voters.
