DK Shivakumar Elected Karnataka CM, To Take Oath on June 3 at Lok Bhavan

DK Shivakumar Elected Karnataka CM, Swearing-In Ceremony Scheduled for June 3

Bengaluru: Karnataka Congress leader DK Shivakumar has been unanimously elected as the new leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP), clearing the way for him to become the state’s next Chief Minister. The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to be held on June 3 at the Glass House of Lok Bhavan in Bengaluru.

DK Shivakumar Unanimously Chosen as CLP Leader

The decision was taken during the CLP meeting held at Vidhana Soudha on Saturday afternoon. Outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah proposed DK Shivakumar’s name, while Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara seconded it. The proposal received unanimous approval from all 136 Congress legislators.

With the endorsement of the legislature party, DK Shivakumar is set to become Karnataka’s 23rd Chief Minister. Senior Congress leaders K C Venugopal and Randeep Singh Surjewala supervised the meeting on behalf of the party high command.

Siddaramaiah Steps Down, Thanks Party Leadership

During the meeting, the Congress Legislature Party passed a resolution appreciating Siddaramaiah’s leadership and contributions to both Karnataka and the Congress party.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Siddaramaiah confirmed that he had stepped down from his positions.

“I have resigned from the post of Congress Legislature Party leader and Chief Minister. The decision to appoint the next leader has been left to the high command,” he said.

Sources said the CLP meeting briefly paused while senior leaders, including Siddaramaiah, Venugopal and Surjewala, held discussions in a separate room before the proceedings resumed.

Swearing-In Ceremony to Be Held at Lok Bhavan

Congress state unit working president and Rajya Sabha MP G C Chandrashekhar confirmed that the oath-taking ceremony will take place at the Glass House of Lok Bhavan on June 3.

“There was some confusion regarding the venue initially. A decision has now been taken that the swearing-in ceremony will be held on June 3,” Chandrashekhar told reporters.

The exact time of the ceremony is expected to be announced officially by the party later.

Congress Calls for a Simple and Modest Event

The Congress leadership has decided to keep the swearing-in ceremony simple and avoid large-scale public mobilization.

According to Chandrashekhar, discussions were held regarding arranging 10,000 to 15,000 buses to transport supporters from different parts of Karnataka to Bengaluru. However, the proposal was dropped due to concerns over fuel availability and potential traffic congestion.

“The swearing-in ceremony should not be extravagant. It should be conducted as simply as possible and should reflect a spirit of work and service rather than display or pomp,” he said.

He also appealed to party workers and supporters not to travel to Bengaluru in large numbers and to cooperate in ensuring that the event does not inconvenience the public.

DK Shivakumar Meets Governor Ahead of Government Formation

Earlier in the day, Shivakumar met Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot at Lok Bhavan. Sources said the meeting focused on discussions related to the swearing-in ceremony and the formation of the new Council of Ministers.

Governor Gehlot had accepted Siddaramaiah’s resignation on Friday and dissolved the Council of Ministers, paving the way for the formation of a new government under Shivakumar’s leadership.

Ahead of the CLP meeting, DK Shivakumar also met K C Venugopal and Randeep Singh Surjewala at a hotel in Bengaluru to discuss the transition process.

Visit to Sri Kadasiddeshwara Mutt

Following his meeting with the Governor, Shivakumar visited the Bengaluru branch of Sri Kadasiddeshwara Mutt, popularly known as Ajjaiah Math.

The Congress leader is known to share a deep spiritual connection with the institution, whose main center is located in Nonavinakere in Tumakuru district.

Karnataka Awaits a New Political Chapter

With the leadership transition now formally underway, attention has shifted to June 3, when DK Shivakumar will take oath as Karnataka’s new Chief Minister. His elevation marks a significant moment for the Congress party and signals the beginning of a new phase in the state’s political landscape.
